The Party Chief shared the view during a meeting with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva in New York on September 24.

General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized Vietnam's significant transformation, positioning itself among the world's 40 largest economies. He noted that Vietnam is now at the threshold of a new era.

He requested that the IMF continue supporting Vietnam in realizing this vision, particularly in promoting economic restructuring, renewing its growth model, advancing green transformation, and developing new technologies, including artificial intelligence, all while ensuring social welfare.

IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva praised Vietnam and ASEAN as bright spots for global economic growth. She highlighted Vietnam's resilience, adaptability, and sustained growth, attributing these strengths to two solid pillars: a strong, increasingly refined institutional framework and a focus on inclusive growth in macroeconomic policy.

Georgieva expressed hope that Vietnam could share its experiences and success stories with other countries, particularly partners in Africa. She reaffirmed the IMF’s commitment to assisting Vietnam in achieving its development goals, including reforms and risk management, to become a high-income, developed nation by 2045.

In response, General Secretary and President To Lam reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to playing an active role in addressing global challenges, striving for a peaceful and prosperous world. Earlier, on September 23, he participated in a dialogue with businesses, investment funds, and members of the Vietnam Innovation Network in the US.

American businesses highly appreciated the Vietnamese leadership’s emphasis on economic development, particularly the commitment to addressing challenges and facilitating business growth.

General Secretary and President To Lam acknowledged the vast potential for Vietnam-US cooperation and encouraged US investors to explore opportunities in high-tech sectors, including chip manufacturing, semiconductors, and AI in Vietnam. He also expressed hope that US businesses would become Vietnam’s largest investors, reflecting the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations.

At the discussion with members of the Innovation Network, General Secretary and President To Lam listened to heartfelt insights and recommendations from young Vietnamese experts and intellectuals in the US on the country’s high-tech development and innovation.

These experts expressed a desire to introduce more businesses and attract large American corporations to Vietnam for research and development (R&D).

The Vietnam Innovation Network, part of the National Innovation Center under the Ministry of Planning and Investment, connects leading global Vietnamese scientific and technological experts with domestic needs, helping Vietnam attract and effectively utilize intellectual resources for socio-economic development.
