On the afternoon of September 26 (local time), a welcoming ceremony was held at the Palace of the Revolution in Havana, where Cuban First Secretary and President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez greeted General Secretary and President To Lam. As the national anthems of Vietnam and Cuba played, the two leaders inspected the honor guard and saluted the national flags of both nations. Following the formal proceedings, the Vietnamese and Cuban leaders introduced the members of their respective delegations present at the event.

The two leaders then engaged in discussions to review and evaluate the outcomes of Vietnam-Cuba cooperation in recent years, as well as to outline strategies for enhancing collaboration across various sectors in the future. Prior to the talks, General Secretary and President To Lam, accompanied by his spouse, laid a wreath at the Jose Marti Memorial in honor of Cuba’s national hero.

Vietnam and Cuba established diplomatic relations on December 2, 1960, with Cuba offering significant support to Vietnam during the war in the 1960s and 1970s. Today, the two countries collaborate in key areas such as rice supply, food production development, healthcare, and pharmaceuticals. Vietnam is Cuba's second-largest trading partner in Asia and the largest Asian investor in the country.

This visit marks General Secretary and President To Lam's first official trip to Cuba in his current role, as the two nations prepare to commemorate the 65th anniversary of their diplomatic relations (1960-2025).
