The Party and State always prioritize the overseas Vietnamese community, including those in Australia, considering them an inseparable part of the nation's unity and a key driving force behind the country's growth.

The Vietnamese community in New South Wales and Australia is strong, well-integrated, and law-abiding. They have contributed significantly to Australia's development and play a key role in strengthening ties between the two countries.

Overview of the meeting.

Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Thanh shared the view during a meeting with the Vietnamese community in New South Wales on September 7, with the senior official currently on a visit to Australia.

Thanh expressed her heartfelt emotions upon meeting a large number of Vietnamese expatriates and students living, studying, and working in New South Wales. She praised the community's efforts and achievements over the past years.

She emphasized that the Vietnamese community in New South Wales and Australia, in general, is a strong and united group that integrates well, abides by local laws, and has steadily built its position. Their contributions to Australia’s development and their active role in promoting friendly relations between the two nations were highly regarded. The community has also initiated a range of activities, achieving notable results, and strengthened connections with domestic businesses, thus fostering economic, investment, trade, and tourism ties between the two countries.

Vice Chairwoman Thanh updated the community on the situation in Vietnam and highlighted key outcomes from the National Assembly's recent sessions. Since the beginning of 2024, the National Assembly has convened three extraordinary sessions and one regular session, promptly addressing critical issues and establishing a legal framework to overcome challenges and drive the country’s development.

Of particular note was the approval of the amended Land Law during the 5th Extraordinary Session in January 2024. This law includes significant reforms, many of which directly affect overseas Vietnamese. She stressed that the law expands land-use rights for overseas Vietnamese, providing favorable conditions for them to invest and conduct business in their homeland. Vietnamese citizens living abroad are entitled to land use rights and access to land on an equal footing with domestic individuals.

Furthermore, at the 7th session, the National Assembly passed amendments to various laws, including the Land Law, Housing Law, Real Estate Business Law, and Law on Credit Institutions, which are set to take effect five months earlier than planned. These changes aim to unlock land resources, contributing positively to the country's socio-economic development.

Vice Chairwoman Thanh reaffirmed that the Party and State always prioritize the overseas Vietnamese community, including those in Australia, considering them an inseparable part of the nation's unity and a key driving force behind the country's growth.

The contributions of over 5.3 million Vietnamese living in more than 130 countries, including over 370,000 in Australia, are vital to the country's development.

In line with Conclusion No. 12-KL/TW issued by the Politburo on August 12, 2021, regarding the overseas Vietnamese affairs, the National Assembly and Government are continuously refining legal frameworks to facilitate the return of expatriates for living, working, and business purposes.

On August 22, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted the 4th Global Overseas Vietnamese Conference and the 2024 Forum for Overseas Vietnamese Intellectuals and Experts in Hanoi, attended by over 600 delegates, including 400 prominent overseas Vietnamese intellectuals, entrepreneurs, and community leaders from more than 40 countries. Vice Chairwoman Thanh highlighted this as a significant event aimed at harnessing the collective wisdom, fostering national unity, and mobilizing the potential and strengths of the overseas Vietnamese community to work together in realizing the nation’s development aspirations.

She expressed her hope and confidence that the Vietnamese community in Australia will continue to grow, remain united, and maintain strong ties to their homeland. She encouraged efforts to organize activities that promote love for Vietnam among the younger generations, teach the Vietnamese language, and preserve the cultural heritage within the community.

The Vice Chairwoman called on the community to further strengthen its solidarity and contribute to building a united, prosperous, and respected Vietnamese community in Australia, which serves as a bridge for friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries.

In response to the concerns and suggestions raised by community representatives, Vice Chairwoman Thanh assured that after her visit, she would compile and forward these issues to the relevant authorities for timely and thorough resolution.
