Hanoi expects the Vietnamese community in Brazil to make greater contributions to bilateral and decentralized relations between Vietnam and Brazil.
Chairwoman of the Hanoi Chapter of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, Nguyen Lan Huong, has expressed her hope that Vietnamese expatriates in Brazil will make further contributions to the development of the homeland and the capital city.
The Hanoi delegates paid a visit to the Lapa neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil last week.
The Vietnamese nationals in Brazil must continue to play a crucial role in strengthening the Vietnam-Brazil relations, she said at a visit to the Lapa neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
At the visit, Huong delivered a briefing on Hanoi’s socio-economic development. She commended the Vietnamese community in Brazil for their resilience in settling and integrating into the local society.
Nguyen Van Nghia, a Vietnamese expatriate residing and working in Rio de Janeiro, was emotional at welcoming Huong and the Hanoi delegation. He shared his joy in witnessing the progress of both Hanoi and the broader country.
Nghia mentioned that there are some 200 Vietnamese nationals in Brazil with a majority residing in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
The Vietnamese nationals are united, caring, and always supportive toward their home nation, he said, adding that they are faithful in Vietnam's development.
In response, Chairwoman Huong hoped that Nghia’s family and others will remain united and supportive to each other to get together through hardships and challenges, and uphold their national pride.
She also encouraged the Vietnamese community in Brazil to do their best to grow, comply with local laws, and deliver valuable contributions to their host country.
The visit of Huong and the Hanoi delegation to the Lapa neighborhood is part of Hanoi’s 2024 People-to-People Diplomacy program with Brazilian and Cuban localities. The program takes place from October 25 to November 2.
The Lapa neighborhood is a historical site where President Ho Chi Minh spent six months during 1912 immersing in the lives of Brazilian laborers, and gaining insights and experiences in solidarity with the working class.
According to the Vietnamese Ambassador to Brazil Bui Van Nghi, the government of Rio de Janeiro may conduct several commemorative events to honor President Ho Chi Minh at the Lapa Square (Arcos da Lapa), and name a street in honor of Vietnam to strengthen the bilateral ties.
