Vietnamese cultural night graces UNESCO’s headquarters

A night of Vietnamese traditional folk art performances helps promote Vietnam's image as a country rich in cultural traditions.

The program entitled “Vietnamese Cultural Night: The Colors of Vietnam” took place last night, November 6, in Paris, France, leaving a good impression in the hearts of international friends.

With the theme of “Cultural heritage is the driving force for peace, self-reliance and sustainable development,” the Vietnamese Cultural Night featured a  traditional martial arts performance, dragon dance and traditional musical instrument playing, folk singing, and others.

This is an initiative of the Vietnamese Delegation to UNESCO, to promote and honor national culture, and express Vietnam’s determination to preserve and promote cultural heritage nationally and internationally.

Taking place on the eve of the 42nd Session of the UNESCO General Assembly, the event was attended by nearly 200 ambassadors, representatives of member countries and UNESCO leaders.

The folk performances at the cultural event 

According to Deputy Foreign Minister Ha Kim Ngoc, Chairman of the Vietnam National Committee for UNESCO, as a country located in the Southeast Asian region, Vietnam is known for its thousands of years of history and unique cultural traditions.

“Proudly possessing eight world cultural and natural heritages and 15 intangible cultural heritages of humanity, Vietnam has made significant contributions to the diversity of the world's heritage,” he stated.

“We are also committed to fulfilling the responsibilities of member states in preserving and promoting cultural heritage values at national and international levels and to contributing more to the collective work of UNESCO by running for the World Heritage Committee for the 2023-2027 term,” he added.

Anne Lemaistre - Director of the UNESCO Office in Havana, Cuba, said that the Vietnam Cultural Night was a clear demonstration of the diversity of traditional arts in the country.

“I really love the Vietnamese cultural heritage and look forward to having the opportunity to visit your country many more times,” she said.

The traditional folk-art programs have helped international audiences to discover the diversity of Vietnamese culture. Besides, renowned Vietnamese delicacies also add  to the excellence of this Vietnam-hosted.
