A course on Vietnamese language for overseas Vietnamese in the Netherlands in the 2023-2024 school year has been opened at the Embassy of Vietnam in Amsterdam.

The course is of a class which has lasted from 2017 in the European country.

At the beginning of the establishment, it had weekly classes at the Embassy. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the teaching went online. The classes attract learners of all ages, with children, students, and people who marry Vietnamese nationals.

Addressing the opening ceremony of the course, Vietnamese Ambassador to the Netherlands Ngo Huong Nam praised efforts made by all learners and teachers. He shared about the Party, State, and Government’s policies on supporting people in learning Vietnamese language abroad.

For such great efforts, September 8 is recognized as the Day of Vietnamese language appreciation for Vietnamese communities abroad.

Ambassador Ngo Huong Nam stressed the importance of maintaining Vietnamese as it is considered a solemn and enduring bond connecting people with their origin.

As a result, promoting Vietnamese abroad is very important as it’s a channel to highlight the national values among international friends.

So far, the number of learners has increased, including more foreigners who prepare for a life in Vietnam.

Nevertheless, learning and teaching Vietnamese abroad faces numerous difficulties: part of the Vietnamese community is indifferent with the courses, lack of teachers who are mainly overseas Vietnamese people and relatives of Vietnamese diplomats working voluntarily without pedagogical methods.

In addition, there are no fixed places and enough facilities for teaching. The ambassador said the Embassy would recommend the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take timely and drastic solutions to facilitate teaching and learning.
