The visit is made at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is chairing the BRICS, a group of major emerging economies - Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa in 2024.

This is the first time Vietnam will be represented at a BRICS summit by its Prime Minister, and it will also mark Chinh's first visit to Russia in his capacity as Prime Minister.

During his visit, Prime Minister Chinh is set to engage in discussions with world leaders and heads of international organizations to explore various opportunities for cooperation and to review the progress of existing agreements. The Prime Minister will also hold formal meetings with Russian senior officials and leading economic corporations to discuss business cooperation.

The meetings aim to enhance bilateral and multilateral partnerships, ensuring that collaboration becomes more comprehensive, effective and contributes to regional and global stability.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang noted that this trip reaffirms Vietnam's position on the global stage and highlights the country's proactive and independent approach to international relations.

"Prime Minister Chinh's attendance at the BRICS Summit reflects Vietnam’s foreign policy of independence, multilateralism, and being a trusted and responsible member of the international community," Hang told local media.

The Deputy Minister stressed that this summit participation is a demonstration of Vietnam's commitment to addressing global issues.

In conjunction with its active role at the UN, ASEAN, APEC, G7, G20, and other global economic initiatives, Vietnam’s involvement in the BRICS Summit showcases the country's dedication to peace and sustainable development worldwide, she said.

"This participation aligns with Vietnam's principles of multilateralism, international solidarity, and adherence to international law, further empowering developing nations in their joint efforts to build peace and foster cooperation globally," she added.

By taking part in the summit, Vietnam presents itself as a forward-looking nation, focused on peaceful development, modernization, and building a resilient, independent economy with strong global ties, Hang said.

“The visit will provide new energy for the Vietnam-Russia partnership, driving meaningful and practical collaboration to match the level of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries,” Hang highlighted.

For other countries participating in the summit, this event offers an important opportunity to advance bilateral ties and boost collaboration in multilateral forums, she said.

“Vietnam, a nation that has overcome countless hardships, is now confidently stepping into a new phase of growth,” said Hang.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia Dang Minh Khoi emphasized that Prime Minister Chinh's participation during Russia's BRICS chairmanship also underscores the special nature of the Vietnam-Russia relationship.

This visit builds on decades of trust and cooperation between the two countries, forming a solid foundation for future partnerships, he said.

“The summit presents a chance for both sides to implement the outcomes of recent high-level visits, such as Russian President Putin’s state visit to Vietnam in June 2024, the phone conversation between President Putin and General Secretary and President To Lam in August 2024, and the visit by National Assembly Chairman Tran ThanhMan to Russia in September 2024.”

The focus of discussions between leaders will be on expanding cooperation in various sectors such as trade, energy, oil and gas, technology, education, and culture, to further strengthen the Vietnam-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership as the two nations approach the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations in early 2025, the Ambassador said.
