In New York, President To Lam will participate in activities during the UN General Assembly's High-Level Week, deliver speeches at the Future Summit, and during the 79th General Assembly's high-level general debate.

Additionally, President To Lam is expected to hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines, engage in events, and meet with leaders from the U.S. government, Congress, political parties, and key officials from various departments. According to Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, President To Lam will deliver significant messages at the UN, strongly supporting multilateralism, with the UN playing a central role in promoting global peace, cooperation, and development.

"This is an opportunity for Vietnam to reaffirm its independent and self-reliant foreign policy, its commitment to multilateralism and diversification of international relations, and its proactive approach to deeper global integration. Vietnam is a reliable friend, partner, and a responsible member of the international community, always contributing positively to peace, friendship, cooperation, and development in the region and globally," commented Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son. The US visit also marks one year since the establishment of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and the US, and both nations look forward to celebrating 30 years of diplomatic relations.

The US is Vietnam's largest export market, while Vietnam is the U.S.'s eighth-largest trading partner. In the first eight months of this year, bilateral trade reached nearly US88$ billion, up 22% compared to the same period in 2023.

Following his US engagements, General Secretary and President To Lam and his wife will make a state visit to Cuba. Vietnam and Cuba established diplomatic relations on December 2, 1960. The two countries cooperate in areas such as rice supply, food production development, healthcare, and pharmaceuticals. Vietnam is Cuba's second-largest trading partner in Asia and the largest Asian investor in Cuba.
