The view was shared during a meeting between Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on September 14, with the latter currently on a visit to Vietnam.

At the meeting, Subianto expressed heartfelt condolences for the severe damage caused by Typhoon Yagi. The President-elect admired the resilient and indomitable spirit of the Vietnamese people, both in their fight for national independence and in their efforts to build and develop the country. He emphasized his deep respect for Vietnam and his commitment to strengthening the traditional friendship and Strategic Partnership between the two nations across various fields.

Both sides agreed to enhance high-level exchanges and cooperation through various channels (Party, State, Government, and people-to-people). They also pledged to effectively implement bilateral cooperation mechanisms to boost mutual trust and address challenges in multiple sectors. The two leaders are confident in achieving the goal of $18 billion in bilateral trade and are committed to working together to remove obstacles, reduce trade barriers, and facilitate market access for goods, including agricultural products and Halal goods.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed the country's readiness to cooperate and support Indonesia in ensuring food security and proposed signing a rice trade cooperation agreement soon. He also urged Indonesia to facilitate market access for Vietnamese agricultural and Halal products and support Vietnam's efforts to lift the IUU yellow card in fisheries. The Indonesian President expressed a desire to boost cooperation with Vietnam in food security, energy security, and high-tech sectors, while also seeking to learn from Vietnam's agricultural development experience.

Both sides agreed to encourage and facilitate mutual investment, particularly in emerging sectors such as the digital economy, green economy, energy transition, and electric vehicle ecosystems. They also aimed to expedite cooperation agreements on technical training and digital economy exchanges.

The leaders committed to deepening collaboration in key areas such as defense and security, maritime cooperation, fisheries, and the development of a digital partnership, including cross-border e-commerce and digital transformation. They also agreed to strengthen cooperation in combating transnational and cybercrime, supporting IT businesses, and promoting cultural and people-to-people exchanges, as well as enhancing aviation and local connectivity.

The two leaders discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern and agreed to bolster cooperation within ASEAN to strengthen unity and maintain the bloc's centrality, particularly in regional security matters, including the South China Sea. They pledged to work towards sustainable and equitable development in subregions, including the Mekong River region.

Chinh urged Indonesia to continue close coordination with Vietnam in maintaining ASEAN's solidarity and common stance on the East Sea and to promote substantive and effective negotiations on the Code of Conduct (COC) in accordance with international law, especially the 1982 UNCLOS.

On this occasion, Chinh invited Indonesia to support and send high-level representatives to attend the ASEAN Future Forum 2025 and the P4G Summit on Green Growth and Global Goals 2030, which will be held in Vietnam in 2025.
