Vietnam views relations with China as strategic priority: Party Chief

The relationship between the two parties and countries is experiencing positive growth and reaching new heights, particularly as both sides approach the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and China on January 18, 2025

Vietnam remains steadfast in valuing the development of its traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership with China, considering it a strategic choice and top priority in its overall foreign policy.

General Secretary and State President of Vietnam To Lam stressed the view during a meeting with the newly-appointed Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam He Wei on September 17.

At the meeting, General Secretary and President To Lam expressed gratitude for the recent support and assistance provided by China in response to the severe impacts of Typhoon Yagi and flooding in Vietnam. Additionally, he sent heartfelt condolences from the Vietnamese Party and State leaders to the high-ranking officials and people of affected Chinese regions due to the recent historic storms.

General Secretary and President To Lam warmly congratulated He Wei on his appointment as Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam. This appointment comes at a time when the relationship between the two parties and countries is experiencing positive growth and reaching new heights, particularly as both sides approach the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and China on January 18, 2025, said the Party Chief.

He expressed confidence that He Wei would play a crucial role in strengthening friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two parties and countries during his tenure.

The Party Chief congratulated China on its significant achievements over the past 75 years since the establishment of the People's Republic of China and over 45 years of reform and opening up. He emphasized that Vietnam consistently values the development of its traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership with China, considering it a strategic choice and top priority in its foreign policy.

General Secretary and President To Lam expressed his delight at the positive and comprehensive development of the bilateral relationship, particularly noting the historic mutual visits by the highest leaders of both parties and countries. These visits have established a new positioning for bilateral relations and agreed upon building a "Future Shared Community" with the strategic orientation of "six greater," which benefits both nations and contributes to peace, stability, and development in the region and the world.

Ambassador He Wei expressed honor at presenting his credentials to General Secretary and President To Lam immediately upon assuming his role in Vietnam. He hoped for continued support and cooperation from Vietnamese Party and State leaders and pledged to fully commit to advancing the China-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and the Future Shared Community. Ambassador He Wei promised to work diligently to deepen and enhance the strategic significance of the relationship and to effectively implement the high-level agreements and shared understandings between the two sides.

He Wei expressed sincere gratitude for the time and valuable guidance provided by General Secretary and President To Lam on advancing the bilateral relationship. He emphasized his commitment to fostering coordination among Chinese ministries, sectors, and localities to fully implement and align with the high-level agreements and shared understandings. He also pledged to enhance regular high-level exchanges, expand practical cooperation in defense and security, deepen economic, cultural, and social collaboration, and strengthen people-to-people exchanges.

Additionally, he aims to maintain close coordination in multilateral mechanisms and international forums, manage and resolve maritime disputes based on agreements and high-level understandings, and work towards the well-being of both peoples and regional peace and stability.
