After concluding a successful state visit to Mongolia, on the evening of October 1, General Secretary and President To Lam, along with a high-level Vietnamese delegation, departed from Chinggis Khaan International Airport in Ulaanbaatar for a state visit to Ireland from October 1-3, 2024, at the invitation of Irish President Michael D. Higgins.

On the morning of October 2 (Hanoi time), General Secretary and President To Lam, along with a high-level Vietnamese delegation, arrived in Dublin, the capital of Ireland, to begin a state visit to the country.

At exactly 8:30 PM local time on October 1 (2:30 AM Hanoi time on October 2), the plane carrying General Secretary and President To Lam and the Vietnamese delegation landed at Dublin Airport, marking the beginning of the state visit to Ireland.

Welcoming the delegation at Dublin Airport were Pippa Hackett, Minister of Agriculture, Food, and the Marine; Eamonn McKee, Director of Protocol at the Department of Foreign Affairs; Brian McDonagh, Mayor of Fingal, Dublin; Irish Ambassador to Vietnam Deirdre Ní Fhallúin; Vietnamese Ambassador to Ireland Do Minh Hung and his spouse, along with several staff members from the Vietnamese Embassy in Ireland.

This is the first state visit since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1996.

Ireland shares many similarities with Vietnam in terms of history, patriotism, resilience, and a diverse and unique cultural heritage. Both nations see vast potential for cooperation and development.

During the visit, high-level leaders from both sides will discuss measures to strengthen collaboration in key areas where Vietnam has needs and Ireland possesses strengths, including high-quality investment, science, technology, innovation, digital transformation, energy transition, and education—particularly higher education.
