During a meeting on October 24, Ali Ijaz Ahmad, the Founder and CEO of Makara Capital—a capital firm based in Singapore—expressed the firm's interest in exploring investment opportunities within Hanoi, drawing upon their extensive experience in global infrastructure, innovation, and energy projects.

Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee, Tran Sy Thanh, acknowledged the commendations received from Ahmad regarding Vietnam's investment climate, which is characterized by its expanding market size and favorable policy frameworks. These factors have generated significant interest from Makara Capital in the capital city of Vietnam.

Makara Capital's strategic emphasis on infrastructure development is underscored by their involvement in projects amounting to approximately US$23 billion in airport and seaport construction across various international locations. Ahmad highlighted several large-scale initiatives in Indonesia, the US, and other nations as exemplars of the firm's engagement in the burgeoning sectors of green and clean energy.

The CEO further noted that the firm is actively seeking opportunities within public-private partnership (PPP) models, particularly those that emphasize research, development, and the application of new technologies. Ahmad identified the optimization of production costs and the exploration of supply chain opportunities as key considerations in their investment decision-making process.

In this context, Ahmad expressed a keen interest in understanding Hanoi's strategic vision and development objectives for the near future, in order to identify compatible investment avenues.

In response, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh articulated that the city's development priorities include fostering innovative startups, promoting green industries, and leveraging new technologies.

He mentioned that Hanoi has submitted two comprehensive development plans to the Prime Minister, outlining visions for 2045 and 2065, which incorporate initiatives aimed at restructuring development models to promote sustainability and intelligence.

Thanh also emphasized the importance of the Hoa Lac High-Tech Park, which seeks to attract participation from high-tech enterprises, including leading global partners and corporations. Situated in the Red River Delta, Hanoi aims to reinforce its position as a central hub and catalyst for growth and development in the northern economic region, facilitating active connectivity initiatives.
