Hanoi seeks stronger ties with Qatar in various fields

A delegation of Hanoi officials conduct a business trip to Doha, Qatar to tighten decentralized cooperation between the city and Qatari partners.

Hanoi aims to strengthen ties with Qatar and local authorities in technology, innovation, healthcare, high-tech agriculture, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges, according to Nguyen Thi Tuyen, Vice Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee.

Tuyen led a delegation of Hanoi officials to Qatar from November 12-15 to improve decentralized cooperation between the city and Qatari localities, contributing to strengthening ties between the two nations.

During the trip, Hanoi officials met with the Vietnamese Embassy in Qatar, the Qatari Ministry of Transport, local dairy producer Baladna, and healthcare service provider Sidra Medicine.

Meeting embassy

Hanoi officials paid a visit to the Vietnamese Embassy in Qatar on November 13. At the meeting, Nguyen Thi Tuyen congratulated the embassy on its   achievements, and expected that the embassy will play a more important role in strengthening diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Qatar.

She hoped that the embassy will facilitate Hanoi businesses to enter the Qatari market, contribute to the improvement of people-to-people exchanges, and host cultural and promotional events to enhance mutual understanding between the two peoples.

Tuyen also looked for the embassy to promote Hanoi’s beauties and cultures to the Qataris, as well as strengthen the city’s relations in agriculture and education-training with Qatari partners.

Relations between Vietnam and Qatar have developed strongly since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1993. The Middle Eastern country is now one of Vietnam’s most important trade partners in the region.

According to Tuyen and the Vietnamese Ambassador to Qatar Tran Duc Hung, this year, when the two countries celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties, is an opportunity for the people, enterprises and governments of both nations to better understand each other, and achieve better results in economy, trade and investment. The trip will drive decentralized cooperation between Hanoi and Qatari localities, as well as the relationship between the two nations.

On November 13, Tuyen and other Hanoi officials also attended the launch of Vietnam’s pavilion at the Expo Doha 2023 with focus on sustainability and desertification prevention.

Visit to local institutions

In his remarks, Qatari Deputy Minister of Transport Fahad Mohammed Fehaid Al-Qahtani appreciated that Hanoi officials coming to the country, and showed his support to take the bilateral relations between the two nations to new heights.

For her part, Tuyen expressed her impression of Doha as a modern, creative metropolis with high living standards.

“Such development is the valuable lessons for Hanoi authorities to explore in order to renovate the cityscape in the future,” said Tuyen. “We hope that the relations between Hanoi and Qatari organizations and agencies will increase, thus contributing to the strengthening of relations between

The Hanoi delegates also visited Baladna’s cattle farm in the north of Doha. Baladna is Qatar’s largest dairy producer, producing 95% of the country's dairy products. Its farm spans over 2.4 million square meters with 25,000 cows.

The company has equipped the cattle farm with modern technologies and solutions to maximize productivity, optimize the use of resource and energy efficiency, and protect the cattle from climate change.

The Vietnamese delegation also toured Sidra Medicine, the state-of-the-art facility of Qatar that provides world-class tertiary healthcare services. Tuyen and other officials met with CEO Iyabo Tinubu Karch and discussed the use of digital solutions in patient management.

The Vice Party Chief of Hanoi suggested that Sidra Medicine work with Hanoi counterparts to share practices and experiences in the healthcare sector, and join workshops and conferences to discuss issues and solutions in the healthcare sector.

She said that the activities are aimed at improving the competence of doctors of both sides, thus bringing about the best benefits for the two peoples.
